Hoooray!
After truly making an honest try to modify the leaf motif to knit it upside down, and realizing that it was no simple matter, which was probably the reason why it was knitted top down in the first place, I admitted defeat. I therefore cast on for the collar, and knitted the yoke top down. Of course this means some serious grafting business

After a nice sunday walk with mom, I started with about 5 meters of yarn and a needle

I can only say I am grateful that I for some strange reason enjoy grafting, although 120 stitches is asking a bit much. I just think it’s really cool that you can graft pieces together and it really looks like it has been knitted in one piece. It’s a bit like magic. After the major grafting, there was the minor business of the underarm stitches, which was quickly accomplished and voilá, I present to you the lace leaf pullover knitted in the round

and me wearing it (picture courtesy of my mom)

I’m really looking forward to wearing it. It’s a bit warm, being bulky 100% wool but hey, that’s what deoderants are for aren’t they? ;-)

Great job on this pullover! I love that it’s knit in the round. What size did you knit? Would it be too much trouble to send me your modified pattern for whatever size you did it in? Or suggestions on how I’d do it?

Til hamingju :) Frábært! A great save on the last ‘meters’.

That is absolutely amazing. First, it fits perfectly. Second, you changed the entire pattern. Third, you hit a major obstacle and overcame it (that much grafting would scare me off!). I think this must be in the Olympic record category.
Congratulations, it looks beautiful on you!

Vá hvað hún er falleg, Sigga! Þessar flíkur þínar eru hver annarri fallegri. Hlakka til að sjá þær með eigin augum. Vona að ég geti heimsótt þig einn daginn til Helsinki. Það gæti nú orðið skemmtilegt!
Maður verður víst bara að kommenta hér, úr því að hitt bloggið þitt hefur gjörsamlega verið vanrækt!!! ;)

Great job! And it is a great colour on you! I think Team Iceland should get extra points for that amazing job that you did reworking that pattern. ;)

Thank you all for your really nice comments :-) they made me very happy!
I can try to make my modifications legible and send them to you by email Faith! Maybe I can do it when I get home from work today. I did the smallest size, I’ll measure the sweater and send that along.
The grafting was indeed a bit scary, but thinking one stitch at a time helps alot!
I’m wearing the sweater as we speak, and it is perhaps a bit on the warm side for wearing indoors, hehe! But I foresee cool spring/summer evenings without a jacket.
Bryndís þú verður endilega að kíkja í heimsókn til Helsinki :-)

I have to thank Cassie for the link to your blog as I never would have found it otherwise.congratulations! You’ve done an absolutely brilliant job with this sweater! I bought Teva’s book with the notion of making this, but hearing other people’s tales of woe scared me off it. I’m in awe of your accomplishment.

Til hamingju með peysuna! Hún er mjög falleg. Fínt að geta reddað efri hlutanum svona. Ég þurfti einu sinni að redda mér á svipaðan hátt. Ég hafði prjónað írska kaðlapeysu á bróður minn en hún reyndist of síð fyrir hans smekk. Ég varð því að klippa neðan af henni. Tók svo upp lykkjur og prjónaði stroffið upp á nýtt, niður á við. Annars hef ég einu sinni prjónað létt-lopapeysu frá hálsmáli og niður, það var ekkert mál…
Er annars komin með prjónablogg. Á sama stað og þú nema ég heiti slauga. Allt hrátt og á eftir að breyta og setja ýmislegt inn.

Elsku Siggan mín hvað þú ert klár!!! til hamingju með nýju peysuna. Skammdegisþunglyndið segir mér að drífa mig til útlanda í sólina (ítalía, spánn…) þannig að núna verðurðu að láta mig vita um leið og sólin byrjar að skína í Finnlandi, þá kem ég til þín á undan :)

I can’t believe it doesn’t work to do the leaf upside down…I guess I’ll have to tackle the grafting again. The whole sweater is lurking in my closet!
